1099 consultant · ~120–600 hrs per funded award · $25–$60/hr · Remote (U.S.)

WebSphere System Administrator (IBM Certified)

Keep the WebSphere environments behind our government work patched, secure and running. Be the person who knows why a cell behaves the way it does.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Install, configure and patch WebSphere Application Server, traditional and Liberty, across cells, clusters and nodes
  • Deploy and tune Java applications: JVM heap, connection pools, thread pools and session handling
  • Harden the environment with SSL/TLS certificates, LDAP security, secure configuration baselines and fix packs tracked against known vulnerabilities
  • Script repeatable admin work with wsadmin and Jython, and keep runbooks clear enough for the next person to follow
  • Troubleshoot outages and slowdowns from logs, thread dumps and heap dumps, then explain the cause in plain terms

Required qualifications

  • Hands-on WebSphere Application Server administration in a production environment
  • IBM certification in WebSphere Application Server administration, current or previously held
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • WebSphere Liberty, IBM HTTP Server, IBM MQ or IBM Integration Bus
  • Federal or DoD hosting environments, DISA STIGs, or work under an Authority to Operate
  • Linux or AIX administration, plus automation with Ansible, Jenkins or shell scripting
  • Security+ or another DoD 8140 baseline certification

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $25–$60 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 120–600 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

Join the bench — WebSphere System Administrator (IBM Certified)

Every application is read. It takes about 5 minutes.

  • This is a bench, not a job offer. Work starts when we win a contract that needs you.
  • We may name you on proposals. If that contract is awarded, you do the role at the rate and hours we agree on.
  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
