How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~160–1,040 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Shape how a registration system handles birth, death and fetal death rules, amendments and corrections the way registrars actually work them
- Tell us where a design breaks for the hospitals, funeral homes, medical examiners, coroners and midwives who file records every day
- Check our handling of out-of-state events, STEVE exchange and NCHS reporting files before it reaches the client
- Sit with our engineers while the system is configured and tested, and help train the people who will file in it
Required qualifications
- Direct experience as a state or local registrar, deputy registrar, or vital records program manager, or in a comparable hands-on vital records role
- Day-to-day work in an electronic birth or death registration system (EBRS or EDRS)
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- STEVE inter-jurisdictional exchange, NCHS IJE files, or FHIR VRDR or BFDR
- Vital statistics data quality, record matching, or amendment processing
- Experience training or supporting hospitals, funeral homes or medical examiners who file records
