Video Streaming Cloud Engineer

Keep live government video on the air: build and run AWS Elemental streaming pipelines, from SRT contribution in to HLS out, and help cover 24/7 operations during session season.

How this role works

You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–800 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

Design, build and tune live channels in AWS Elemental MediaLive and MediaPackage, including inputs, encoder settings, failover and output groups
Set up and troubleshoot Haivision SRT contribution feeds into the cloud, from latency and packet loss to encryption and stream IDs
Deliver reliable HLS to viewers and downstream partners, and check segment timing, ABR ladders, captions and CDN behavior
Take shifts in a 24/7 support rotation during session season, watching live events, catching problems early and fixing them fast
Write the runbooks, alarms and dashboards that let the next engineer on shift know exactly what to do

Required qualifications

Hands-on experience running live video streaming in production, including AWS Elemental MediaLive and MediaPackage
Working knowledge of HLS delivery and SRT ingest, ideally with Haivision encoders or gateways
Able to work scheduled and on-call shifts, including nights and weekends, during peak session periods
U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

Broadcast, legislative, courtroom or public meeting streaming experience
CloudFront or another CDN, CloudWatch alarms, and infrastructure as code such as CloudFormation or Terraform
Closed captioning workflows (CEA-608/708, WebVTT), DVR and archive to VOD
AWS Certified Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator or equivalent

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $30–$75 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 120–800 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.
