Systems & Network Engineer (CJIS, Denver/Boulder)

Keep a criminal justice agency's network and servers running, secure and compliant, on site in the Denver/Boulder area. You'll lead the move from SonicWall to Meraki and share the on-call rotation.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~160–1,000 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Plan and carry out the SonicWall-to-Meraki migration site by site, with rollback plans and as little downtime as possible
  • Run and harden Active Directory, Group Policy, VMware hosts and Microsoft 365 to meet CJIS Security Policy requirements
  • Take your turn on call, troubleshoot outages on site, and write up what broke and how you fixed it
  • Keep network diagrams, configurations and change records current so an auditor or the next engineer can follow them

Required qualifications

  • Hands-on experience as a systems or network engineer running Active Directory, VMware vSphere and Microsoft 365 in production
  • Firewall and switching work on SonicWall, Cisco Meraki or comparable platforms, including at least one migration you helped plan and carry out
  • Able to work on site in the Denver/Boulder area, take on-call rotations, and pass a CJIS fingerprint-based background check
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in a CJIS environment, such as law enforcement, courts, corrections or public safety dispatch
  • Cisco Meraki, CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP or Microsoft 365 administrator certification
  • Experience leading other engineers or serving as the senior on-site technical lead

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $30–$75 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 160–1,000 hours per funded award, on site, denver, co. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
