How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–400 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Plan and lead outfall screening and dry-weather inspections in eastern Connecticut, in person and in all reasonable weather
- Collect field observations, photos and samples, run field tests, and keep chain-of-custody and records clean
- Trace suspect flows upstream through catch basins and manholes to find the source, and document what you found
- Tell us where our maps, data model or reports do not match what is actually in the ground
Required qualifications
- Hands-on field experience with stormwater, MS4 compliance, IDDE, or water quality sampling
- Lives in eastern Connecticut and can work in person in the field, with a valid driver's license and reliable transportation
- Comfortable with field safety basics, including traffic, confined-space awareness and working around open structures
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with a Connecticut MS4 general permit program or municipal stormwater department
- Outfall mapping in GIS or a mobile data collection app such as Survey123 or Field Maps
- Field kits and methods for ammonia, surfactants, chlorine, bacteria or optical brighteners
- CPESC, CESSWI, CT DEEP training, or a degree in environmental science or engineering
