About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Lead software safety analysis under MIL-STD-882E, from software criticality and level of rigor through hazard tracking and safety verification evidence
- Design and run automated hardware-in-the-loop test benches that exercise real-time software against real or emulated hardware
- Tell us where a test plan misses timing, interrupt, fault-injection or degraded-mode behavior that will show up in the field
- Build the traceability from hazards to requirements to test results that a safety review board or certification authority will accept
- Review our software and test artifacts before they reach the Government and point us at the standard or guidance we should be following
Required qualifications
- Direct experience performing software system safety work under MIL-STD-882E or a comparable safety standard on a fielded or certified system
- Hands-on lead experience building or running automated hardware-in-the-loop test environments
- Experience testing real-time or embedded software, including timing, fault injection and hardware interface behavior
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Weapon-system software safety experience, including work supporting a safety review board such as WSESRB or an equivalent
- Familiarity with the Joint Software Systems Safety Engineering Handbook, AOP-52, DO-178C or IEC 61508
- Test tooling such as NI VeriStand, dSPACE, LabVIEW, Python test frameworks or custom simulation and stimulation rigs
- Active security clearance or the ability to obtain one
