How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~160–800 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Inventory and assess an existing VMware environment: hosts, clusters, storage, networking, dependencies and the workloads nobody remembers owning
- Design the target platform on Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV or Proxmox VE, sized and configured for the workloads it will actually carry
- Plan and run migrations in waves, with tested runbooks, rollback paths and clear cutover windows
- Convert and validate VMs, drivers, tools and guest settings so systems come up healthy on the new hypervisor
- Rebuild backup, replication and recovery on the target platform and prove it with a real restore
- Write the as-built documentation and hand-off notes so the customer's team can run what we leave behind
Required qualifications
- Five or more years engineering VMware vSphere environments (ESXi, vCenter, vMotion, storage and virtual networking) in production
- Hands-on experience migrating workloads from VMware to Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV or Proxmox VE at meaningful scale
- Comfort with Windows Server and Linux guests, including the driver, tooling and boot changes a hypervisor move requires
- Experience planning cutovers with runbooks, testing and rollback, and owning the result
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- More than one target platform among Hyper-V/SCVMM, Nutanix AHV/Prism/Move and Proxmox VE
- Veeam, Zerto or comparable backup and replication tools, including recovery testing
- Scripting and automation in PowerShell, PowerCLI, Python or Ansible
- Shared storage and networking experience: SAN, NAS, iSCSI, Fibre Channel, Ceph, VLANs
- Certifications such as VCP, Nutanix NCP, or Microsoft Azure/Windows Server credentials
- Prior work for federal, state or local government IT
