About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–500 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Shape the technical approach on funded research and development work, from the problem statement to the method and the experiments that would prove it
- Design evaluations that show whether a model actually works, and say plainly when it does not
- Review our models, training data and pipelines for soundness, leakage, bias and reproducibility
- Write the technical narrative, results and related-work sections that hold up to expert review
- Point us at the prior work, benchmark or dataset we should build on instead of reinventing
Required qualifications
- PhD in computer science, statistics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics or a closely related field
- Peer-reviewed publications in machine learning or data systems, as first author or a major contributor
- Hands-on experience designing, training and evaluating models, not only directing others who do
- Based in the United States and able to work remotely part-time
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Publications at venues such as NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR, KDD, VLDB, SIGMOD, AAAI or comparable journals
- Experience as a PI, co-PI or senior personnel on federally funded research
- Work on robustness, uncertainty, data-centric ML, ML systems or learning from limited or noisy data
- Experience moving research into production systems used by real people
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. $70–$145 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience.
