Senior Headless CMS Architect (Bay Area)

Lead the move from Sitecore to a modern headless CMS for a public-sector website, working with the team in person in the San Francisco Bay Area.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~160–800 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Design the target headless architecture: content models, APIs, front-end delivery, preview and publishing workflow
  • Plan and lead the Sitecore migration, from template and content inventory through mapping, transformation and cutover
  • Work through hard cases with our engineers: personalization, multilingual content, media, redirects and SEO continuity
  • Review our estimates, risks and design choices before they reach the Government, and tell us plainly where they fall short

Required qualifications

  • Senior-level experience architecting headless or decoupled CMS platforms such as Contentful, Sitecore XM Cloud, Contentstack, Sanity, Strapi or Optimizely
  • Hands-on experience leading at least one migration off Sitecore XP or XM, including content and template mapping
  • Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and able to work on site there as the project needs
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • Front-end delivery experience with Next.js, React or a comparable framework, plus a CDN and edge caching
  • Public-sector, higher education or other high-traffic public website experience
  • Sitecore, Contentful or comparable platform certification
  • Familiarity with Section 508 and WCAG accessibility requirements

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $40–$95 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 160–800 hours per funded award, on site, san francisco, ca. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

Every application is read. It takes about 5 minutes.

  • This is a bench, not a job offer. Work starts when we win a contract that needs you.
  • We may name you on proposals. If that contract is awarded, you do the role at the rate and hours we agree on.
  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
