About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–500 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Serve as a named partner PI-level scientist on the award, shaping the research plan and standing behind the science
- Review our surveillance designs, risk models and spread simulations against how pathogens, pests, hosts and vectors actually behave
- Tell us where an approach breaks on real field sampling, diagnostic lab results, movement records or reporting lags
- Check claims about detection, prevalence, risk and model accuracy before they reach the Government
- Point us at the dataset, diagnostic standard, reference model or published literature we should be building on
Required qualifications
- PhD, DVM with advanced epidemiology training, or equivalent research doctorate in plant pathology, veterinary epidemiology, or a closely related field
- Record of leading or co-leading funded research on plant or animal disease, with peer-reviewed publications
- Willingness to be named as a partner PI-level scientist on a federal research award
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Experience with transboundary, emerging or regulated plant pests and pathogens, or foreign animal diseases
- Work with state veterinary, state plant health, cooperative extension, diagnostic laboratory network or agricultural experiment station partners
- Hands-on spatial or network spread modeling, risk-based surveillance design, or outbreak response
- Prior PI or co-PI role on a federal research grant or SBIR/STTR award
