How this role works

1. You join the bench. We name you (with a short bio) on proposals that match this role, always asking you first. Consent costs you nothing and commits you to nothing until an award funds.
2. A contract is awarded. Federal SBIR awards fund the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins, at an hourly rate agreed before you were ever named.
3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~40–80 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you’ll do

• Review how we model technical manuals, IETMs, and S1000D/MIL-STD data against how they are authored and used in the fleet.
• Tell us where an automated extraction or authoring aid would break on real Navy source data.
• Sanity-check our claims about maintainer workflow and data quality before they reach an evaluator.

Required qualifications

• Direct experience authoring, maintaining, or working from Navy technical manuals or IETMs.
• Familiarity with S1000D, MIL-STD-3031, or an equivalent technical-data standard.
• Willing to be named in a federal proposal with your consent, each time.

Preferred qualifications

• NAVSEA, NAVAIR, or a fleet maintenance activity.
• Experience with a technical-data conversion or publications modernization program.

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $100–$125 per hour, confirmed in writing before you are named on any proposal. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — roughly 40–80 hours across a 6–12 month period of performance per funded award, fully remote. No award, no hours, no obligation.
