How this role works
- You join the bench. With your written consent, we name you (with a short bio) on proposals that match this role. Consent costs you nothing and commits you to nothing until an award funds.
- A contract is awarded. Federal SBIR awards fund the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins, at an hourly rate agreed before you were ever named.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~40–80 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Review adaptive-training and simulation approaches against real schoolhouse and fleet training practice
- Advise on how military instructors assess, remediate, and certify students
- Sanity-check simulator scenarios, fidelity assumptions, and performance metrics
- Keep our terminology native to the training and readiness community
- Join occasional government calls and technical reviews for funded efforts
Required qualifications
- 15+ years in military training and education — schoolhouse instructor, training-systems officer, exercise designer, or training-command staff
- Fluency in how military units actually train, assess, and certify
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willingness to be named as a consultant on federal proposals, with written consent
Preferred qualifications
- Simulation/training-systems acquisition exposure (NAWCTSD, PEO STRI, or similar)
- Fire-support, aviation, or surface training background
- Post-service instructional-design or training-industry work
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. Hourly rate agreed in the first conversation, before you are named on any proposal. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — roughly 40–80 hours across a 6–12 month period of performance per funded award, fully remote. No award, no hours, no obligation.
