Maritime Navigation & ECDIS Integration Engineer

Help us connect software to the bridge correctly, so position, charts and sensor data reach ECDIS the way real navigation systems expect them.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Review how our software reads and writes NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 and IEC 61162-450 traffic, and tell us where it will break on a real bridge network
  • Check our handling of S-57 and S-100 chart data, including encoding, updates and display behavior, against how ECDIS actually uses it
  • Help design and test interfaces between our tools and type-approved ECDIS, radar, GNSS, gyro and AIS equipment
  • Point us at the right standard, test procedure or authoritative source before a claim reaches the Government

Required qualifications

  • Hands-on experience integrating, testing or supporting ECDIS or other shipboard navigation systems
  • Working knowledge of NMEA 0183 or NMEA 2000, IEC 61162-450, and S-57 or S-100 chart data
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with IEC 61174 or IEC 62288 type-approval testing, or integrated bridge systems
  • Hydrographic survey, chart production or S-100 product specification work (S-101, S-102, S-111, S-124)
  • Sea time as a deck officer, navigator or shipboard electronics technician

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $45–$100 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 120–600 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

Join the bench — Maritime Navigation & ECDIS Integration Engineer

Every application is read. It takes about 5 minutes.

  • This is a bench, not a job offer. Work starts when we win a contract that needs you.
  • We may name you on proposals. If that contract is awarded, you do the role at the rate and hours we agree on.
  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
