About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Review how our designs schedule, isolate and launch work under Slurm and MPI, and show us where one user's job can reach another's
- Check permissions, ACLs, quotas, encryption and data paths on Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale, BeeGFS or similar parallel filesystems
- Build and maintain threat models for shared facilities that cover login nodes, compute nodes, service accounts, data transfer nodes and many tenants
- Check our security claims before they reach the Government, and point us to the guidance or facility practice we should be following
Required qualifications
- Hands-on experience securing or administering production HPC clusters in a security, systems or research computing role
- Working knowledge of Slurm configuration and accounting, MPI job launch, and at least one parallel filesystem such as Lustre, GPFS/Spectrum Scale or BeeGFS
- Experience writing threat models or security assessments for shared, multi-user systems
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- DOE national laboratory, NSF, NASA, DoD HPC Modernization Program or university research computing center experience
- NIST SP 800-223 and 800-234 HPC security guidance, NIST SP 800-53 or RMF
- Munge, Kerberos, cgroups job isolation, and containers on HPC such as Apptainer or Podman
- Active security clearance, or CISSP, GIAC or comparable certification
