How this role works
- You join the bench. With your written consent, we name you (with a short bio) on proposals that match this role. Consent costs you nothing and commits you to nothing until an award funds.
- A contract is awarded. Federal SBIR awards fund the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins, at an hourly rate agreed before you were ever named.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~40–80 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Review navigation, guidance, and PNT technical approaches for physical and operational realism
- Advise on inertial, seeker, and assured-PNT practice as actually employed on fielded systems
- Sanity-check navigation error budgets, seeker/endgame assumptions, and state-estimation models against real programs
- Keep our terminology and assumptions native to the GN&C/PNT community
- Join occasional government calls and technical reviews for funded efforts
Required qualifications
- 15+ years in guidance-navigation-control, inertial navigation, interceptor/seeker systems, or assured PNT — uniformed (missile-defense, space, or aviation navigation) or prime-contractor programs
- Working fluency in how these systems are operated, maintained, and evaluated
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willingness to be named as a consultant on federal proposals, with written consent
Preferred qualifications
- GPS-denied or vision-inertial navigation; missile-defense or interceptor-endgame experience; Kalman-filter / state-estimation depth
- Prior security clearance
- Post-service engineering or consulting work
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. $100–$125 per hour, confirmed in writing before you are named on any proposal. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — roughly 40–80 hours across a 6–12 month period of performance per funded award, fully remote. No award, no hours, no obligation.
