GIS Field Technician (Phoenix, AZ)

Be our eyes on the ground in the Phoenix area, visiting sites as needed to collect accurate GIS field data that our maps and models can rely on.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~40–300 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Visit sites around the Phoenix area as needed to collect location, attribute and photo data
  • Capture points, lines and features with GPS/GNSS and mobile GIS apps to the accuracy the work calls for
  • Check what is on the ground against what is in our data and flag what does not match
  • Write up clear, organized field notes and hand off clean, complete data to our team

Required qualifications

  • Based in the Phoenix area and able to reach local sites on short notice
  • Hands-on experience collecting GIS field data with GPS/GNSS equipment or mobile apps such as ArcGIS Field Maps, Survey123 or QField
  • Reliable transportation and comfort working outdoors in Arizona conditions
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with survey-grade or sub-meter receivers such as Trimble, Emlid or Eos Arrow
  • Working knowledge of ArcGIS Pro or QGIS for checking and cleaning field data
  • Utility, municipal, environmental or infrastructure field work
  • GIS certificate or degree, or GISP certification

Compensation & structure
