About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~200–1,000 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Set the formal methods approach for our resilient software work: what we specify, what we prove, and which tools we use for each layer
- Write and review specifications, proofs and verification plans, and tell us honestly where a proof is complete and where it rests on assumptions
- Check our claims about eliminating vulnerabilities before they reach the Government, so every claim matches what the proofs actually cover
- Serve as named formal methods lead on proposals in your field with a real time commitment, with us always asking you first
- Point us to the prior verified systems, tools and research we should build on rather than reinvent
Required qualifications
- Hands-on experience applying formal verification to real software, such as interactive theorem proving, model checking, or verified compilation
- Working depth in at least one of Coq/Rocq, Isabelle/HOL, Lean, TLA+, Dafny, F*, Frama-C, CBMC, SAW or comparable tools
- A track record of leading or delivering research or engineering projects of similar scope
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- PhD or equivalent research record in formal methods, programming languages or software security
- Led a funded research effort as PI or co-PI
- Work on verified systems such as seL4, CompCert, HACL* or similar high-assurance code
- Verification of C, Rust or low-level systems code, protocols or cryptographic implementations
- Peer-reviewed publications at venues such as CAV, POPL, PLDI, CCS, IEEE S&P or ITP
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. $70–$145 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience.
