Database Administrator (DB2)

Run the production DB2 databases behind a statewide traffic crash records system. This is a full-time, remote W-2 role. You would be named in our proposal, and the job starts only if we win.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~1800–2080 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Keep four production DB2 databases healthy around the clock: an operational store, a data warehouse, a data mart and a geospatial database
  • Design, tune and reorganize schemas, indexes and queries so they keep up with millions of records and steady daily load
  • Own backups, restores and recovery testing, working with the state's hosting provider
  • Run and script data loads, write and maintain shell scripts, and plan and carry out DB2 upgrades

Required qualifications

  • 10 or more years administering DB2 v8/v9 in production on UNIX or Linux
  • At least one current RDBMS certification (Oracle, DB2 or SQL Server)
  • 5 or more years of DB2 database design, performance tuning, backup and recovery, data loads, shell scripting and upgrades
  • At least 5 of the last 12 years spent on work like this
  • Willing to complete a state and out-of-state criminal background check
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • MicroStrategy or other OLAP reporting tools on top of a DB2 warehouse or data mart
  • ETL design and support for warehouse and data mart loads
  • Geospatial data in DB2, such as DB2 Spatial Extender
  • State or local government, transportation or public safety records systems
  • Upgrades from DB2 v8/v9 to later DB2 LUW releases

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $45–$100 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 1800–2080 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

Join the bench — Database Administrator (DB2)

Every application is read. It takes about 5 minutes.

  • This is a bench, not a job offer. Work starts when we win a contract that needs you.
  • We may name you on proposals. If that contract is awarded, you do the role at the rate and hours we agree on.
  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
