About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–400 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Serve as science lead or co-investigator, shaping the research questions and the methods we commit to
- Review our data pipelines, retrievals and models against sea-ice physics and the field and satellite record
- Tell us where an approach breaks on real ice: melt ponds, ridging, snow on ice, the marginal ice zone, or gaps in sensor coverage
- Check claims about accuracy, skill and uncertainty before they reach the Government
- Point us at the dataset, product or reference measurement we should be validating against
Required qualifications
- PhD or equivalent research record in sea ice, glaciology, snow science, polar oceanography or a closely related cryosphere field
- Peer-reviewed cryosphere or sea-ice research, with experience leading or co-leading a funded study
- Willing to be named as science lead or co-investigator on a proposal and to serve in that role if it is funded
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Hands-on work with satellite sea-ice retrievals from passive microwave, SAR, or altimetry such as ICESat-2 or CryoSat-2
- Sea-ice or coupled ice-ocean modeling with CICE, Icepack or comparable models
- Arctic or Antarctic field campaign experience
- Prior federally funded polar or Earth science research as PI, Co-I or science lead
