Crash and Injury Biostatistician

Make our crash and injury models hold up statistically, from the way crash data is sampled and weighted to the injury risk curves we build from it.

About Precision Federal

Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.

How this role works

  1. You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
  2. A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
  3. You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.

What you'll do

  • Build and review injury risk functions from field crash data, with honest treatment of sampling weights, censoring and uncertainty
  • Tell us where a modeling approach breaks on real CISS, CIREN or FARS records, including missing data, coding changes and case selection
  • Pair classical biostatistical methods with machine learning where it really helps, and say plainly where it does not
  • Check our findings on injury severity, occupant factors and vehicle factors before they reach the Government

Required qualifications

  • PhD in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, injury biomechanics or a closely related field
  • Hands-on analytic work with CISS, CIREN, FARS or comparable crash databases
  • Experience developing or validating injury risk functions
  • Working use of machine learning methods in applied statistical work
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
  • Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with NASS-CDS, GES, CRSS or state crash and trauma registry data
  • Survey-weighted analysis in R, SAS, Stata or Python
  • Familiarity with AIS and ISS injury coding and occupant or vulnerable road user injury research
  • Peer-reviewed publications in traffic safety, injury prevention or biomechanics

Compensation & structure

1099 consulting engagement. $30–$80 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 120–600 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.

Join the bench — Crash and Injury Biostatistician

Every application is read. It takes about 5 minutes.

  • This is a bench, not a job offer. Work starts when we win a contract that needs you.
  • We may name you on proposals. If that contract is awarded, you do the role at the rate and hours we agree on.
  • Paid hourly as a 1099 contractor; full-time roles may be W-2. If your background fits, we will email you.
