How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–600 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Review our SCADA master plans, control architectures and system inventories against how real plants and field sites are wired and run
- Tell us where an approach breaks on real PLCs, RTUs, telemetry links, historians or operator workflows
- Check our claims about reliability, redundancy, communications and lifecycle replacement before they reach the Government
- Seal or review engineering deliverables where a North Carolina PE is required, within your license and practice area
- Point us at the standard, the code or the vendor guidance we should be using
Required qualifications
- Active North Carolina Professional Engineer license, or a PE license in another state and eligibility for North Carolina licensure by comity
- Direct experience in electrical or controls engineering for utilities, treatment plants, or similar industrial or infrastructure systems
- Hands-on SCADA work, including system assessment, architecture or master planning
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Water, wastewater, stormwater, electric or gas utility SCADA experience
- Experience with PLC and HMI platforms such as Allen-Bradley, Schneider, Siemens, Wonderware/AVEVA, Ignition or iFIX
- Telemetry and communications design: licensed or unlicensed radio, cellular, fiber, DNP3, Modbus
- Familiarity with ISA/IEC 62443, NIST SP 800-82 or other control system security guidance
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. $40–$90 per hour; we set your rate from your résumé and experience. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — this seat is scoped at roughly 120–600 hours per funded award, fully remote. Work and pay begin only if the contract is awarded — no award, no hours, no obligation.
