How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~120–700 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Prepare channel geometry, bathymetry, and wind, wave and current inputs from validated numerical models for ship simulation studies
- Check channel and turning-basin alternatives against federal navigation design criteria for feasibility and design-phase studies
- Tell us where a proposed method breaks on real survey data, real hydrodynamics or real vessel behavior
- Help write the engineering analysis and recommendations sections of study reports
Required qualifications
- Coastal, hydraulic or civil engineering experience on navigation channel, harbor or waterway projects
- Hands-on work with hydrodynamic models such as ADCIRC, AdH, Delft3D, TELEMAC or HEC-RAS 2D, and with survey bathymetry
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Federal navigation, dredging or deep-draft channel studies
- Ship simulation or ship maneuvering studies, including work alongside harbor pilots
- Professional Engineer (P.E.) license
