About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~200–1,000 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Direct the network's central laboratory and biorepository work, including specimen collection, processing, shipping, storage and chain of custody across sites
- Set the plan for bringing in new assays and technologies: how they are chosen, validated, bridged against current methods and rolled out without breaking comparability
- Own the quality management system, including proficiency testing, site training, deviation review and corrective action, and make the call when results or samples are not fit for use
- Run the decision process for specimen distribution, from request review and scientific merit to remaining-volume limits, consent checks and fair access for investigators
- Work closely with the scientific, clinical operations and data coordination leads so lab results arrive clean, documented and ready for analysis
Required qualifications
- Doctoral degree (PhD, MD, DO or equivalent) in laboratory medicine, pathology, clinical chemistry, immunology or a closely related laboratory science
- Experience directing or co-directing a central laboratory, core lab or biorepository that supports multi-site clinical studies
- Hands-on knowledge of laboratory quality systems such as CLIA, CAP accreditation, GCLP or ISO 15189, including assay validation and proficiency testing
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Board certification such as ABPath, ABCC, ABMLI or ABB, or eligibility to serve as a CLIA high-complexity laboratory director
- Biorepository experience following ISBER Best Practices, including specimen access committees and material transfer agreements
- Biomarker or new-technology validation using CLSI guidelines, such as multiplex immunoassays, mass spectrometry, sequencing or digital PCR
- Experience with a laboratory information management system such as LabVantage, LabWare, OpenSpecimen or FreezerPro
