How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~100–500 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Serve as a named project director or co-PD and own the plant pathology science in our proposals and funded work
- Review our disease models, detection approaches and field data against how HLB and the Asian citrus psyllid actually behave in the grove
- Tell us where an approach breaks on real orchard conditions, rootstock and scion differences, or grower practice
- Connect our work to a citrus grower network and carry results back out through extension channels growers trust
- Point us at the trial data, diagnostic standard or literature we should be building on
Required qualifications
- PhD in plant pathology, horticultural science or a closely related field
- A citrus or HLB research record (publications, funded projects or field trials) strong enough to serve as a named project director or co-PD
- Extension work with a citrus grower network in Florida, California or Texas
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Prior role as PI, PD or co-PD on a competitively funded agricultural research award
- Hands-on experience with CLas qPCR diagnostics, psyllid monitoring, or therapy and rootstock trials
- Ties to a land-grant university, citrus research and education center, or grower cooperative
- Familiarity with imaging, remote sensing or machine learning applied to tree health
