How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~100–400 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Play for Catholic Mass and liturgies, following the Church calendar, the Order of Mass and the celebrant's choices
- Play for Protestant chapel services, from traditional hymns to contemporary praise, in the style each service calls for
- Choose and prepare music with the chaplains so it fits the readings, the season and the people in the pews
- Lead congregational singing with confidence so a small or changing congregation still sounds like it belongs together
- Be there on time, prepared and steady for weekend services, holy days and the occasional special service
Required qualifications
- Proficiency on organ, piano or keyboard sufficient to lead congregational singing on your own
- Experience playing for Catholic Mass and for Protestant worship services, or for one tradition with clear readiness to serve the other
- Able to be on site in Cheyenne, WY for scheduled services, including weekends and holy days, and to clear the background check needed for installation access
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Working knowledge of the Roman Missal, the liturgical year, and Catholic hymnals and missals such as OCP, GIA or Breaking Bread
- Comfort with both traditional hymnody and contemporary praise, including playing from chord charts and lead sheets
- Experience directing or accompanying a volunteer choir, cantor or praise team
- Prior military chapel experience or ties to the Cheyenne area
