About Precision Federal
Precision Federal is a small business building AI, data and software systems for government agencies. The company’s founder loves God, and the company is built on Christian faith: every number we publish is real, every claim we make is verifiable, and the work is done with excellence as service to God. Faith is welcome here and openly shared.
How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–500 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Lead the catastrophe modeling and meteorology side of our work, from hazard inputs through modeled loss
- Run, review and explain results from accepted hurricane models, and say plainly where they can and cannot be trusted
- Check our wind field, storm surge, frequency and vulnerability assumptions against the science and the historical record
- Guide our engineers and data scientists so the hazard, exposure and loss pieces fit together correctly
- Review findings and written claims before they reach the Government, and stand behind them as the senior expert
Required qualifications
- Lead-level experience in catastrophe modeling, with hands-on use of accepted hurricane models such as Verisk (AIR) Touchstone, Moody's RMS RiskLink, KCC RiskInsight, CoreLogic or a public hurricane loss model
- Professional depth in meteorology or atmospheric science, especially tropical cyclones, wind fields or storm surge
- Experience explaining modeled results, uncertainty and model limitations to reviewers, regulators or decision makers
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Degree in meteorology, atmospheric science, civil or wind engineering, or a related field
- Experience preparing or reviewing hurricane model submissions for regulatory or rate-filing acceptance
- Work with HURDAT2, NOAA or NHC data, ADCIRC or SLOSH surge modeling, or building vulnerability functions
- Insurance, reinsurance, public insurance program or emergency management background
