How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your hourly rate, weekly hours and start time, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~40–80 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Review autonomy and mission-planning approaches for operational and airspace realism
- Advise on how pilots, aircrews, and UAS operators actually plan and fly missions
- Sanity-check safety, assurance, and human-machine-teaming assumptions
- Keep our terminology native to the aviation and autonomy community
- Join occasional government calls and technical reviews for funded efforts
Required qualifications
- 12+ years in military aviation or unmanned systems — pilot, naval flight officer, UAS operator, or flight-test engineer
- Fluency in mission planning, airspace procedures, and flight operations
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Open to being named as a consultant on federal proposals
Preferred qualifications
- Autonomy, flight-test, or airworthiness/assurance experience
- Strike planning or C2 exposure
- Prior security clearance
Compensation & structure
1099 consulting engagement. $50–$80 per hour; you tell us the rate you are asking when you apply. Hours are funded by federal contract awards — roughly 40–80 hours across a 6–12 month period of performance per funded award, fully remote. No award, no hours, no obligation.
