How this role works
- You join the bench. You apply with your weekly hours and start time. We set your hourly rate from your résumé, and we may name you on proposals that match this role. If we don't win, you owe nothing.
- A contract is awarded. The award funds the team named in the proposal. Your engagement begins at the hourly rate we agreed on.
- You work remote, paid from the contract. ~80–720 hrs per funded award — and if no award ever funds, you owe nothing and lose nothing.
What you'll do
- Work alongside our lead engineer to stand up an operational CHPS Operator–Client system: master controller, forecasting shell servers, Config Manager and operator clients
- Help import and adapt an existing River Forecast Center configuration, then validate the new system's output against the source office
- Support a live pilot and hands-on training for the forecasters who will run the system
- Step in for the lead on short notice, with enough command of the configuration to keep the schedule and the system on track
Required qualifications
- Five or more years developing, configuring or supporting an operational hydrologic forecasting system
- Hands-on Delft-FEWS and CHPS configuration in a live forecast office, such as an NWS River Forecast Center, a utility or a water agency
- Willing to be named as alternate engineer, with your résumé, in a proposal that is contingent on award
- Three people from the last five years who can speak to your forecasting-system work
- U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident (U.S. person)
- Willing to be named on a federal proposal with a one-page resume, and to sign a short letter of commitment
Preferred qualifications
- Testing of pre-release (beta) FEWS or CHPS versions before they went operational
- Training forecasters or operational staff on FEWS or CHPS
- Former RFC development or operations hydrologist, CHPS focal point or FEWS integrator
